Senior Quantity Surveyor
GCM Ltd | Central Belt | DOE

GCM Ltd are a specialist commercial consultancy supporting construction and engineering businesses. They work as trusted commercial advisors to Main Contractors, SMEs and clients delivering complex infrastructure and construction projects, helping enhance margin, manage risk and strengthen commercial performance.
This is not a traditional contractor Senior QS role. GCM operate as a commercial partner to business owners and directors, providing advisory and project support across a portfolio of live work. The team is trusted for clear advice, strong contract administration and practical commercial judgement.
The business has grown organically through reputation and repeat work, not aggressive expansion or marketing. Continued growth is planned, and this hire is part of building long-term capability, not filling a short-term gap.

The opportunity

You will join as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a fast-moving consultancy environment, supporting a portfolio of clients across different sectors. You act as a senior commercial advisor on projects, helping clients navigate cost, contracts, risk and opportunities.
The role blends technical QS delivery with advisory exposure. You may support multiple clients across a week or be embedded on a major project, depending on demand. Variety is a constant.
This is a relationship-led environment where clarity, accuracy and commercial judgement matter.

Day-to-day expectations

You will:

  • Produce commercial reporting, forecasts and financial controls for client projects
  • Monitor costs, manage change and maintain robust project records
  • Support procurement strategy and tender evaluation
  • Administer NEC, JCT and bespoke contracts
  • Review contracts, advising on obligations, risks and mitigation measures
  • Assess variations, compensation events and claims
  • Provide practical commercial risk advice
  • Represent GCM as a trusted client contact
  • Attend meetings and contribute to decision-making
  • Support value engineering and governance processes
  • Mentor junior team members where required

This is a visible client-facing role, and occasional travel to sites and/or client offices is expected.

What great looks like

We are looking for a commercially sharp Senior QS comfortable operating across multiple client environments.
You will bring:

  • Strong consultancy, contractor or client-side QS experience
  • Strong NEC and JCT contract understanding
  • Confidence in cost control and reporting
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Clear communication and stakeholder confidence
  • A Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Equally important is how you work:

  • Calm under pressure
  • Organised and detail-driven
  • Consistent and reliable
  • Solutions-focused
  • Comfortable with pace and variety
  • Growth-minded
  • Collaborative and professional

Why join GCM

The company invests heavily in development, including construction law qualifications, technical training and personal development programmes. There is a clear pathway for progression as the consultancy continues to scale. You will join a business where leadership is accessible, autonomy is encouraged, and your work has a visible impact.
