Employee Experience Support
The NWH Group | Edinburgh Based | Drivers Licence Required | £29,000 - £32,000 + £6,000 Car Allowance
This is not your typical HR role.
Syme Drummond is delighted to be exclusively partnering with The NWH Group to support the appointment of an Employee Experience Support within their growing HR team.
At The NWH Group, they understand people stay where they feel valued, listened to and supported - and that’s exactly what this role is all about!
This opportunity has been created to bring in someone who genuinely enjoys being around people, building relationships and making a difference to employees day-to-day.
You won’t be sat behind a desk all day dealing with policies and paperwork. Instead, you’ll be out and about across sites, chatting with drivers, workshop teams, operational staff and managers, helping make sure people feel supported, heard and looked after throughout their time with the business.
The NWH Group is a second-generation family-run recycling and waste management business with over 370 employees across Scotland and the North-East of England. Despite continued growth, they’ve worked hard to maintain the down-to-earth, close-knit culture that makes the business what it is today.
This role has been created to help strengthen that even further.
What will you be doing?
You’ll act as a friendly and approachable point of contact across the business, helping improve onboarding, employee experience and retention - particularly within operational teams and the driver workforce.
Some days you might be:
- Checking in with new starters to see how they’re settling in
- Visiting sites and building relationships with drivers and operational teams
- Listening to feedback and helping resolve any day-to-day frustrations
- Spotting little issues before they become bigger problems
- Supporting managers with employee wellbeing and communication
- Working closely with operations to improve the day-to-day employee experience
- Travelling between sites to stay connected with employees across the business
This is a hands-on, people-focused role where building trust and relationships is absolutely key.
What are we looking for?
For this role, attitude and people skills matter far more than a polished corporate background.
- High emotional intelligence with the ability to read between the lines
- Approachable, grounded and easy to talk to
- Comfortable building relationships with drivers, workshop teams, senior managers and office staff alike
- Enjoys being visible across the business rather than sitting behind a desk all day
- Confident, resilient and comfortable in a practical, fast-paced environment
- Naturally solutions-focused and able to connect the dots to improve employee experience
- Understands what “good” looks like across the full employee journey, from onboarding through to senior long-standing professionals
- Genuinely enjoys helping people and making a positive difference
Experience within environments such as logistics, transport, manufacturing, construction, retail, hospitality or other operational businesses would be highly beneficial.
You don’t necessarily need a traditional HR background to be successful in this role. Previous HR or people-focused experience is welcome, however applicants from customer-facing or operational environments with strong relationship-building skills are equally encouraged to apply.
If you’re someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a hands-on environment and wants to be part of a business where relationships and culture genuinely matter -we’d love to hear from you!
