Want to make a real impact in a complex, customer-facing organisation going through major change?

This is a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up HRBP role supporting c.2,000 employees across diverse operational sites. You’ll be joining a close-knit People team at a pivotal moment, with new leadership, new external framework, and a real push to become an employer of choice.

You’ll need to bring credibility, pace and pragmatism. That means confident union engagement, sound ER judgment, and the ability to partner with leaders in operational, customer-facing environments. With lots of change and casework in play, we’re looking for someone who can get stuck in from day one.

What you’ll get involved in:

  • Partnering leaders across a large operational workforce c. 2000 - 2200 employees.
  • Managing complex employee relations casework (expect busy peaks of 20–25 cases at times).
  • Building relationships with recognised trade unions and supporting pay talks within a public-sector framework.
  • Coaching managers to lift capability, engagement and trust.
  • Driving cultural and behavioural change as part of a wider transformation agenda.
  • Exciting projects including ED&I initiatives, shaping the organisation to become an “employer of choice”, driving transparency and modernisation and more.
  • Getting out on-site – from frontline operations to regional hubs – to build trust and credibility with employees and managers.

Why this role?

  • Impact at scale – influence the experience of 2,000+ employees in a complex, regulated environment.
  • Exciting time to join – new leadership and a major change agenda underway.
  • Variety guaranteed – from meaty ER cases to shaping culture and coaching leaders.
  • Supportive team – a collaborative HR function where pragmatism, candour and humour are valued.
  • Excellent benefits – generous holiday allowance, car allowance, family travel perks, market-leading pension (6% employee, 30% employer contribution), wellbeing support and flexible hybrid working.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven HRBP experience in a customer-facing, service-sector or operational setting is essential (hospitality, transport, retail etc.).
  • Strong union engagement and complex ER casework background.
  • Pragmatic judgment, able to balance policy with humanity.
  • Resilience and credibility to partner with a diverse, operational workforce and leadership population.
  • Energy, innovation and initiative – not just “computer says no,” but someone who can make things happen.
